Feeling settled, starstruck and rediscovering The Handmaids Tale #LittleLoves

Huge thanks to Kerri Ann for hosting Little Loves for me last week. It was the second week of half term and the fifth week of no wifi and everything got on top of me. With the girls back at school and wifi installed I’m slowly getting back on track! So this time I’m sharing not only this week’s Little Loves but last week’s too.

Here we go then, are you ready for some positivity? Grab a cuppa and enjoy my Little Loves, don’t forget you can read lots of other bloggers’ Little Loves by clicking on the linky at the end.

After watching the first episode of The Handmaid’s Tale a few weeks ago I knew I just had to dig out my old copy of it from sixth form. Of course this meant searching through various boxes of books! Thankfully I found it in the second box so it didn’t take too long. I love reading all my scribbled annotations in the margins, it feels like a lifetime ago that I wrote them.

Blog post wise, I thoroughly enjoyed this post by Caro at The Twinkle Diaries – Bringing Up Men and Positive Body Image It’s such a thought provoking piece on a subject close to my heart. I’m challenged daily to be body positive around my girls, and it is so difficult at times but I know it’s so crucial.

Ok, so I’ve binged the whole of season 5 of Orange Is The New Black and I can say that is is hands down the best season so far (in my opinion!). I think it’s got better as the focus has shifted away from Piper and included all the characters more.

I’d love your thoughts if you’ve watched it.

Last weekend we took a trip to Leeds for the ITU World Triathlon. The mister took part in the morning and then we stayed for the Elite Women’s Race and the start of the men’s. If you’re a regular reading you’ll know that triathlons have become a big part of our lives so to see the athletes up close was a huge deal. N was so starstruck seeing Non Stanford and the speedy Flora Duffy go past.

It was a fantastic weekend, which is lucky because I missed out on going to Blogtacular because of it!

We’ve had a big push on unpacking and really getting somewhere, especially in the kitchen and the bedrooms. I did a bit of a Homesense spree yesterday and picked up some lovely things… I feel a Homesense haul vlog coming on..! I got a pair of these beautiful bedside tables. They are similar to these from West Elm, but for a fraction of the price!

After writing a bit of a ‘brain dump’ of all my feelings on moving earlier in the week (Craving routine in change and uncertainty) I now feel a lot more settled. Getting rooms organised and feeling more like ours has definitely helped.

You might have spotted on social media if you follow me that last week I got my first tattoo! Not someone that does things by halves I didn’t go for something little I went the whole hog and got a large tattoo with lots of shading. As I sat there ready for her to start I did think maybe I’ve been rather foolish! This photo was taken soon after I had it done so it’s a bit red and inflamed.

I’m so happy with it and can see myself getting another one.

London Grammar’s new album is available of Spotify so that’s been on lots this week, even after a four year gap it’s worth the wait.

and lastly

We’re off to Sheffield this weekend seeing friends and going to a family wedding. The weather looks gorgeous so we’re all set for a lovely couple of days!

Normally I share a collage of nine of my favourites from the #littleloves community on Instagram but I’ve changed things up and now just choosing three and featuring them on Instagram Stories with a tag back to the original account obviously. If you’re on Instagram and want to join in, it’s so easy just use the hashtag #littleloves on any photo that shows something little that you love – so that can be pretty much anything!

Ah Im desperate for a trip to Homesense – your bedside table jumped out at me immediately in the picture – I love it! Going to take my teen there I think as we are about to embark on a new bedroom for her. I’m interested to know what your girls think of your tattoo. Will they want one too do you think? Have a lovely weekend. xx

I scream YES to a homesense vlog haul I love that place. I need to get my butt in there for some accessories for the garden when it’s finished. I love your bedside tables they are amazing and really suit the space. Your new home is so beautiful and you will decorate it amazing as always. I am jealous of your light and blank canvas to play with. lol Your tattoo suits you so much. I don’t think I could ever get one knowing me and how queasy I get just you telling me about yours hahah but they do say once you get one you get the bug for getting more immediately. lol Glad you are getting settled in and it was so great to see you this week, catch up and have a peak at the new pad.

I’m glad to her you are feeling more settled in your new home, you can finally put all that moving stress behind you. I also think season 5 of OITNB has been the best, I did sob my heart out at the last episode though. I thought Taystee’s scene in the final episode was so moving and raw.

Glad to hear you’re feeling more settled-moving can really use you to the limits. We’ve been in our place for 2 years now and we still have so much to do. Keeping it vaguely presentable is hard enough on a dady to day basis let alone making it all look pretty too. Always searching for new interior ideas and love homeware now (i feel like that has come about with age) so a vlog sounds perfect to see your ideas too. Your tattoo is amazing you were so brave going all in. I have 2 little ones and want more but still debating the locations though i think i have chosen a couple of designs. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the sun x

Love your tattoo! I’ve been meaning to get one for years and never done it, but my husband got his first at the end of last year and is already planning his next, so for my birthday has booked me in to finally take the plunge once our baby is born!
I’m glad you’re getting settled in your new home.

I feel your pain, moving house is such a bitch isn’t it! Especially with little ones. I’m going to try and get The Handmaid’s Tale out of the library next week and give it a read before catching up with the show on All 4. I’m so behind! I’ve also not seen any of Orange is the New Black but people keep raving about it and I have major FOMO!

Love those bedside tables, they’re gorgeous. Great Homesense find! Your tattoo is stunning and makes me want to get one now. I’ve been toying with the idea for years but feel like I might have to do it soon. Glad that you’re settling into your new home, ready for lots of new adventures. Enjoy your weekend away xx

I love The HandMaids Tale but I couldn’t get on with the book. It’s rare that I think this, but the TV series might be better than the book in my opinion!

Also, desperate for a Homesense haul. I’ve never been to one and I think it would be right up my street by the look of those bedside tables. #LittleLoves

Love your tattoo! Glad you’re feeling more settled now and getting back into a routine again. I’ve never even heard of Homesense – this is how out of the loop I am with English shops now! I feel a massive shopping spree coming on when we move next month. How great for N seeing all those amazing athletes competing. I’m a few episodes in to The Handmaid’s Tale and it’s one of the weirdest things I’ve ever watched, but oh so brilliant at the same time. I think I’ll have to get myself a copy of the book. Hope you’re having fun in Sheffield x

Those bedside tables are the dream! What an amazing find! I haven’t watched or read The Handmaids Tale, but I definitely want to – it’s the book for Stacie’s Book Club so hopefully I will manage it before then! Hope you’re having a lovely weekend xx

Everyone talks about Home Sense all the time and I always see online how beautiful their things are. I really wish there was one in Cornwall! Your tattoo is so gorgeous. It’s on my bucket list to get one before I turn 30. It’s good to hear you’re settling into your new house now. Your new homeware bits look gorgeous! xx

I still haven’t got a three round to watching Orange is the new black on Netflix. I adore your bedside tables, so elegant.
