#LittleLoves Linky – 24/11/17

It’s been a week of playing catch up thanks to being poorly last week. Honestly, it feels like I haven’t stopped, especially when you throw in the fact that I’ve become a taxi service every evening for my kids and their various activities! All things considered it’s been a good week, I even managed to get some Christmas shopping done!

I’m continuing to try something a little different by sharing the link up and my own post separately. If you’re a blogger that links up each week then link up as normal below but if you just want to see my post you might want to click here instead – ‘Lonely Sunflowers, The Civil Wars and Long Lasting Lipstick’

I can’t quite believe that this is the third year of Little Loves posts! Some of my fellow #Littleloves bloggers have been joining in all that time too. It’s so lovely to have such a variety of bloggers join in, whether monthly or each week.

If you’re new to my blog and haven’t the foggiest idea what I’m wittering on about then here’s the general gist.

Basically the idea behind the posts is that they are a weekly (or monthly, if you’d prefer) chance to remember the little things you’ve loved that join up to make your week. You can even vlog your answers and share them on your YouTube channel and then link up as you would do with a blog post.

Here are the headings and ideas..

This can be anything you’ve read this week that you’ve enjoyed or found interesting, a blog, article, book or even a quote

What have you watched this week that you’ve really loved? Can be a film, youtube video, tv programme, even a play or a sports game!

This can be music, a talk or podcast or even some thing funny that your child has said (if you have one!).

Are you particuarly craft-y? Or have made a yummy meal? Lots can fit in this category if you feel a bit creative.

This can be a full outfit post, or highlighting an accessory or make up. You can even put children’s outfits here if you’d rather.

This heading is for anything you want to share that doesn’t fit in a category!

Fancy joining in?

The usual rules apply, just copy the above headings and use them as prompts in a blog post then link up below and let me know!

Please make sure that you comment on my post, it’s easy to find as it’s the one labelled as ‘host’ on the linky. Don’t forget to show some love to the fellow bloggers sharing the little things that they’ve loved this week, by having a read and commenting on their posts too. You don’t have to comment on them all but linkies are a great way of supporting others and finding new blogs that in turn will find you too! After all it’s cool to be kind. Be sure to use the hashtag #littleloves if you’re on twitter so we can all keep an eye out for the posts and promote each others.

Here’s my badge if you fancy popping it on your post:

If you’re on Instagram and want to join in with the Little Loves community on there, it’s so easy just use the hashtag #littleloves on any photo that shows something little that you love – so that can be pretty much anything! I’ll share my favourites on Stories each Friday.

A very big house in the country, that Joanie jumper and a shop-iversary! #littleloves

Happy Friday!

Like last week I’m continuing to try something a little different by doing two separate posts, this one jam packed with my Little Loves and one with the linky for bloggers to link up their posts, you can see that one here

We had yet another busy weekend, with this one being full of fun and family and quite a bit of travelling in the car! Unfortunately the cold that I thought I’d got rid of came back with a vengeance on Monday so I’ve spent the week popping lozenges and flu plus while wrapped in a blanket and trying to work.

However, there’s been some lovely little things this week in amongst the tiredness and poorliness, so grab a cuppa and have a read.

  read

I’m embarrassed to admit it but I’m still reading When God Was A Rabbit. I had no time over the weekend to read and then reading a book has been the last thing I’ve wanted to do while feeling ill. I promise to have a fully jam packed Read section next week. Honest.

I hadn’t realised it until recently but the final season of Vampire Diaries is now on Netflix! So of course in my ill state it was the perfect viewing and I’ve binged the whole lot. If you’re a Vampire Diaries fan you need to get on it and get some closure. I’m now wanting to give the spin off The Originals another try.

Of course I’ve been watching the gem that is BBC’s Motherland. I swear that Julia is my actual spirit animal. If you’re a parent you really should be watching this comedy. The whole series is available on demand on bbc iplayer.

Memories!!

Did you get the Blur lyric reference in the post title? ‘Oh he lives in a house a very big house in the country’ Everything’s either Blur or Harry Potter reference related in our house right now thanks to the ten year old’s current obsessions!

Seriously though, for my mother in law’s birthday we all headed over to Somerset where they’d rented a gorgeous house for all twelve of us for the weekend. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have seen my Stories from the weekend and just how gorgeous the house was and what a treat it was to have a hot tub. I’m under strict instructions from the mother in law not to share any hot tub photos of us so, unlucky, haha! Here are a few (non-hot tub related, well apart from one) snapshots..

This is where we stayed – The Old Rectory, Somerset

After spotting the very stylish Kerri Ann in one of these knitted headbands recently in her LittleLoves last week  I just couldn’t resist popping in and getting one of my own, and for under £4 it’s a bargain. I won’t share a picture of me wearing it as the only one I managed to get I look rather ill in!

You know how much I LOVE Joanie Clothing? Well, I finally got my excited little hands on the much coveted Bronte jumper from Joanie Clothing I’ve wanted one since I spotted them in September so when they came back in stock last week I ordered one straight away!

They’ve actually got 20% off at the moment with the code WHYWAIT (you’re welcome 😉 )

heard

My youngest girl has finally embraced Harry Potter and has spent most evenings for the last few weeks listening to installments of The Philosopher’s Stone as narrated by Stephen Fry. On Wednesday night it came to an end and she is desperate for me to read the next book to her! This is a huge breakthrough for a child that can barely sit still for a small illustrated children’s book. My fingers are well and truly crossed that the magic continues for her as I read it – if not I’ll be enlisting the help of Stephen Fry again for sure.

I’ve jumped back on board with podcast this week while driving and I’ve been particularly loving Lola’s One Girl Band Podcasts. This week’s on ‘Feeling Stuck’ really helped me to get back on track creatively. I’ve got so much that I want to do and changes I want to make but have been struggling to just get on with them. This podcast has definitely help me put a plan together and feel more creatively inspired again.

As for music I’ve been loving a bit of Wolf Alice, especially this live stripped back version of Don’t Delete The Kisses

and stumbled on this fantastic Spotify Sessions indie playlist which they feature on.

This is where I nonchalantly drop in the fact that the guitarist grew up on the same street as me in the little Cornish village I lived in when I was little. He was younger than me though and I knew he older brother more. See, isn’t your life enriched now you know that fascinating little tit bit…

and lastly

We’ve got a quiet weekend ahead! Wahoooo! I think we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief on that one. When N gets back from her swim training on Saturday morning we don’t plan on leaving the house until the next day. I don’t even plan to get out of my pyjamas. I might give the house a much needed clean though!

This week it was my shops third birthday! To celebrate all things Little and Fierce I’m giving a store wide discount of 10% until midnight on Sunday with the code BIRTHDAY10. So if you had your eye on anything then go and get it now.. I’m running low on a lot of the favourites and won’t be restocking so hurry, hurry!

Have a fantastic weekend!

After a wonderful family weekend away in Somerset I’ve been knocked for six with a horrible heavy cold. I had so many plans blog wise for this week but trying to work when your brain is a foggy mess that won’t clearly communicate is not conducive for any kind of creative productivity!

Stranger Things, pregnancy announcements and.. um.. Harry Styles #Littleloves

Nope. I’m not pregnant and I can safely say those that are have nothing to do with Harry Styles. Rather, these are just a few of my favourite things about this week. I’m trying something a little different this week and doing two separate posts, this one jam packed with my Little Loves and one with the linky for bloggers to link up their posts, you can see that one here

We had a busy weekend, though when are they not these days(!), with a birthday sleepover for the ten year old, six girls altogether, including a friend for my youngest girl. Amazingly it went so well and wasn’t stressful at all! Hands down one of the easiest sleepovers we’ve hosted. Phew!

We then launched straight into school and work on Monday morning and I can’t say we were entirely up for it. Early starts and routine has been a shock to the system. Not to mention wake up alarms!

There’s been some lovely little things this week in amongst the tiredness and busy times, grab a cuppa and have a read.

I mentioned last week that I wanted to re-read Sarah Winman’s [amazon_textlink asin=’0755379306′ text=’When God Was A Rabbit’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’butwhymummywhy-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’8ebaec07-c55b-11e7-bf5a-e9918ac5989c’], well I’m a few chapters in and loving it. I honestly hardly remember the story so it’s like reading it afresh. Sarah Winman is fast becoming one of my favourite authors for sure.

Stranger Things

It was spectacular! Honestly, it did not disappoint in any way. If you’ve seen season 1 and loved it but haven’t got around to season 2 yet then get on it!

Pregnancy announcements! Two of my gorgeous blogging friends announced their pregnancies at the end of last week, Lucy at Dear Beautiful and Jenny at Lets Talk Mommy click on their names to watch their cute announcement videos.

Television wise, I stumbled across Harry Styles at the BBC. Now I’m no One Direction or even Harry Styles fan but I ended up watching it while working on my laptop and was won over. He’s definitely trying to make his way as a musician and artist far from his 1D roots  – thankfully! This bit in particular was rather funny.

It’s been all about the autumnal comfort food this week, hasselback potatos, soup, roast dinner, crumble, and some Harry Potter dairy free birthday cake. Alas I’ve no photos to share, most ended up on IG Stories but as they disappear after 24 hours I no longer have them. You’ll have to take my word for it.

Story of my life!

Not complaining though, I’ve decided to embrace my love of black, white and grey. After all I do throw in a little yellow or even red every now and again. Talking of yellow, I’ve had my eye on this yellow coat from New Look ever since it hit the shops and now it has 25% off I might just have to give in it and get it!

A big birthday, Harry Potter and Half Term Adventures #LittleLoves

I’m sat down in my little office typing this on Thursday morning while the girls are off swimming with their dad and as I reflect over the week I’ve realised we just haven’t stopped since last Friday. From a two day swimming gala, then straight to Edinburgh for three days and now I’m here sat at my desk with my hair in mum bun  top knot and comfy clothes feeling suitably tired and staring at my laptop screen!

The upside to having a nonstop week is all the fantastic things we’ve managed to pack in that I’m excited to be sharing. Here we go then, are you ready for some positivity? Other than that I’ve got nothing to report, I’ve not even had time to read my usual blogs.

Last weekend saw us cheering on our eldest girl through yet another swimming gala. She came away with personal bests in all her events and got two bronze medals. We were so proud and she was really pleased with her performance.

The littlest and I ducked out of gala viewing on Sunday to spend some time together and we went to see the new My Little Pony movie. She absolutely loved it and I can say it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be! A must see for any MLP fan.

I’ve loved spending so much time with my girls this week, I definitely enjoy being a mum to older children more than to younger ones. Am I allowed to admit that?! Just chatting with them and watching them interact with each other (and not just fighting all the time) has been lovely.

Netflix wise we’re slowly making our way through Stranger Things and trying not to rush through and binge it. I’m desperate to keep one rolling after the other, but the mister is being frustratingly sensible and disciplined.

MAde

So on Monday morning we made the trip up to Edinburgh and on the way we managed to squeeze in a visit with our lovely friend Esther. We’ve known Esther and her husband Ash for over 13 years now (!!) and I’m so pleased that even though we’re far from each other we’re the kind of friends that pick up where we left off each time we see each other again.

Once we arrived in Edinburgh we checked into our Airbnb apartment and it was just as lovely as it looked on the photos, we stayed in the New Town area, you can have a peek at the flat here. It’s the first time I’d used Airbnb, and I would do again, it was so easy and great value too.

We wrapped up warm for our trips around Edinburgh, we did a whole lot of walking so comfy shoes were a must too! Now that we’re home I’m ready for a couple of lazy days and won’t be straying far from cosy knitwear.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago I’d been busy reading up on places we should go and visit while we were in Edinburgh. While scrolling through Pinterest I found a post about the Harry Potter Trail. For those that aren’t HP nerds like myself and my family, J K Rowling wrote Harry Potter in Edinburgh so there are a lot of ties there and places she got her inspiration from. I planned it into our day as a birthday surprise for my eldest girl and hoped it was as good as I expected it to be.

It was!

I loved seeing just how excited and interested my eldest girl was. She listened intently to everything the guide said and enthusiastically exclaimed that it was the best birthday surprise ever. Phew. I learnt so much too, and was fascinated by how much inspiration she got from Edinburgh. I won’t give away anymore 😉

The Potter Trail is free and definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan.

Of course we had to have a wander down Diagon Alley, I mean Princess Street, afterwards.

and lastly

I can’t quite believe that my eldest girl, the one that made me a mummy has just turned ten. Insert cliche about time going fast here. It’s true though, that terribly frustrating saying that old ladies like to say to you when your children are teeny and driving you crazy,

Unlike the rest of the country we’ve not been on half term this week. Boo. I’ve no idea why, but it’s been hard going on social media this week and seeing so many people have fun while I’m struggling to drag my kids out of bed each morning! I’m so happy that we’ve got a week off now and not only are we in Edinburgh for a few days it’s also N’s 10th birthday while we’re there. I’ve finished another book, woo! I made the time to finish [amazon_textlink asin=’1473635489′ text=’The Keeper Of Lost Things’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’butwhymummywhy-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’a323a1fb-ba2f-11e7-88af-81926b417219′], I actually volunteered to take N to swim training last Friday night as I knew I could then have an hour of uninterrupted reading!

Now I’ve picked up [amazon_textlink asin=’0091955033′ text=’Brene Brown’s Rising Strong’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’butwhymummywhy-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’ad94d1ca-ba2f-11e7-a146-b9b0c3734010′] and jumped back in where I left off a couple of months ago.

I find this book so challenging and inspiring that I have to read it a little at a time to make sure I can process it properly.

I also really enjoy reading and commenting on all the Little Loves posts linked up. I’ve noticed that quite a few that link up don’t get any comments and this makes me sad. I told you guys last week about my free download from Paper Joy, well I took my own advice and downloaded it for myself. Here it is all framed in my (work in progress) home office.

Here’s my rather untidy desk, which I’m tapping away from right now. We’ve been working hard on this room making it a joint workspace and music room. We’re not there with it yet, there’s still a couple of boxes to sort through and systems to put in place but as soon as they’re done I’ll share what we’ve been up to.

I’ve also put my other hat on as Little and Fierce owner and been part of the BabyLoved event again. Early last Sunday morning I pitched up to the village hall with my boxes of wares and had a stall surrounded by gorgeous preloved clothing stalls and other local businesses.

After my lovely shoot for Joanie Clothing, I’ve just done another one with Robyn for LOTD. It was loads of fun to do and I’m really trying to get better and feel more relaxed in front of the camera. I’m so out of my comfort zone though! Here’s a little peep from Wednesday’s shoot..
