It’s the first #LittleLoves of 2018

After a Christmas with extended family we’re now home. The Christmas decorations are down and safely packed away, and I’ve been having a New Year purge of clutter. Though not as much as I’d like, I seem to have given birth to offspring that love to hoard. Not ideal when you’re trying to have a more minimal home.

My girls aren’t back at school until next week so I’ve been squeezing in a little work here and there but I’m definitely not in work mode yet. I’m actually looking forward to putting lots of things into motion when the time comes, though I’m not looking forward to early starts and school runs!

Now onto those wonderful little things from this first week of a New Year, grab a cuppa (or a glass, depending on the time of day..!) and have a read.

  read

I’ve just started The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer and I’m really enjoying it. I found it on Amazon after a few click throughs on the links for ‘other people bought this’, you know the recommendations for similar books. I’m so pleased I found it, and I have a feeling I’ll be ordering more by these author.

For now though, I do have rather a lot of books to be getting on with..

watched

Black Mirror! I know this is a Marmite sort of series but we LOVE it. Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones are so innovative and it always leaves me thinking, and often rather freaked out!

Have you watched any of this new season on Netflix?

MAde

Before heading home last Saturday we had one last play and walk at Moors Valley. We always go there whenever we stay with the inlaws as it’s only down the road and is so much fun. We had such a lovely time with my husband’s old school friends and their families.

The astute among you might have noticed that this site has had a little refresh. I’ve put up a static homepage and had a rejig around of everything. There’s still more to do, but with the girls still off school, those new little projects will have to wait a little longer.

I’m fully embracing my black, grey and white clothing, after really trying to give colour and pattern a try. Rather than buying things I’m realistically never going to wear. I’m working on more of capsule wardrobe that can be easily mixed and matched. So much so that I’m going through a big wardrobe clear out and putting loads on ebay!

I did make a few little purchases in the sales though, namely this jumper and those wide leg jeans both from Topshop.

I finally ordered myself a pair of Vans too after wanting them for so long!

heard

I’ve not listened to much music this week, I have however, listened to my children talk. A lot. Children talk a lot. All the time. It’s not all been arguments and shouting, thank goodness, we’ve also had a lot of fun. Old school board games like Cluedo and Game of Life have provided hours of entertainment. We had a really low key NYE with friends and none of us even saw the New Year in, that’s how rock and roll it was! After a busy Christmas an evening with food, talking and board games was was we all needed. I put on an Indie Party playlist to at least give us a few party points.

and lastly

The mister is off with friends in Scotland this weekend, all right for some, eh?! So it’s just me and my girls, I think Lego building and film watching will be a big part of the next couple of days.. oh that and a whole load of school uniform ironing for me!

There’s also a HUGE sale over at my store, Little and Fierce and it’s a discount on everything, no code needed!

Have a fantastic weekend.. and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy new year Morgana ! I’ve only just started reading books daily again and my to-read pile is as big as yours already. We haven’t watched Black Mirror yet but do intend to, I really like the episodes but boy are some of them grim. Have a lovely weekend (bar the ironing) xx

I like that pile of books, some interesting reading there. I love Moors Valley we’ve had some great days out there, last time we hired bikes which was great fun. I always like to pop over and say hi to the Gruffalo much to the embarrassment of my children! Happy new year x

Oh you can’t beat black, white, and grey together too. I used to say I never wear black or even have much but I noticed I am drawn to the white, black and grey lately and especially five months pregnant I can only wear black leggings no more colored skinny jeans for me now. lol Loving the new look of your blog and excited to hear more about the CWSR community I see you have a tab coming soon. How exciting. Happy New Year. Let’s get some work days/catch ups in the diary soon. Miss you! And most important to my fifth year of #littleloves linking up with you.

It’s my first time joining in with #littleloves and I hope to join every week if I can! I’m loving the new look of your blog and being as I plan to read a lot more blogs this year, yours is first on the list. I’m planning a start up of my own and read tons of stuff on it and I’m always so interested in mums businesses, so your interests are very similar to mine. Although I’m not creative or in the slightest bit stylish haha! My Dad lives in Lancashire so I was up your way over the new year having a lovely time. I love Lancashire! Fascinated by that book collection, I’m going to check them out! Happy new year! #littleloves

The husband and teen started to watch Black Mirror last night (season 1) and I kind of got drawn into it, though it is a little strange in parts. I didn’t realise Charlie Brooker was behind it until the husband said. Oh yes girls hoard ALOT, my daughter is terrible and in total opposite my teen son is really tidy. Thank goodness I have one tidy child lol. Hope you have a nice relaxed weekend with the girls x

  14. January 6, 2018 / 4:58 pm

  22. January 7, 2018 / 9:11 pm

Happy New Year! Love the Vans- there’s been a pair in my wardrobe forever (well, a few pairs) and fortunately by brother’s such a fan he now keeps my kids in them each birthday. I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend with your girls, and I look forward to seeing what you think of your stack of books.

  23. January 9, 2018 / 1:56 pm

I try to have a more minimal home as well but it’s hard, especially because of my roomies (mainly my partner and my cat- they take up a lot of space with all their belongings!)
Black Mirror freaks me out, I had to stop watching!
Good luck with the ironing! Have a good week x

Love the look of your reading pile. I’d like to hear what you think of the Ali Smith book, I’ve seen it popping up on Instagram a few times now. I did notice that your site had had a makeover, it looks fabulous! Hope you are getting back to normal and settling well into the weekday routine again x
