After a weekend of just me and my girls , playing board games, going for walks on the beach and watching films we were set up for the week ahead. The first week of school and work for the New Year, and it’s gone surprisingly well!
Today is actually my youngest baby’s birthday, I say baby, but she’s actually seven, so hardly a baby anymore. It’s thanks to this not so little one that I started blogging so it’s crazy to think just how many years have gone by since I started.
Now onto those wonderful little things from this week, grab a cuppa (or a glass, depending on the time of day..!) and have a read.
3 Tips to Make Yourself Attractive to Brands – Shiny Thoughts ~ I found this blog post incredibly insightful and helpful. There’s a lot to take from it and action if you’re a blogger that wants to work with brands and monetise your blog. Lucy works for Boden as their social media content producer as well as running her own blog so she can write from both sides.
The Interestings ~ I was definitely more on the mark with my book a month idea, there is no way I’d ever manage a book a week! As you’ve probably guessed I’m still reading [amazon_textlink asin=’0099584093′ text=’The Interestings’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’butwhymummywhy-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’38eb2943-f6f7-11e7-a86f-ffb66c350a69′] I’ve not read as much as I’d have liked this week, but being the first week back at work and with all the after school activity drop offs and co-ordination I haven’t really had much time.
The Greatest Showman ~ I had a weekend with just my daughters last week so we made the most of it and went to the cinema to see this film. They absolutely LOVED it. Yes, it was cheesey in parts, it’s a musical though so you expect it to be a little hammy. It’s a lovely family film though so if musicals are your jam then definitely go and see it.
The BBC drama McMafia has me completely hooked. Exploring the murky world of international crime, we see its impact from the bottom to the top stratas of society. It’s uncomfortable viewing but impeccably scripted and acting and shines a light on issues such as human trafficking. If you like gripping and thought provoking dramas then give this one a try. The first three episodes are on catch up, with a new episode airing weekly on BBC One, Sunday night at 9pm.
With this being my first week back at work, so to speak, it’s been a week of reviewing last year and setting up plans for this year both personally and professionally. I wrote more about this on my Word For 2018 blog post earlier this week, but I want to start simplifying my life. I’m fed up of hustling but not achieving. With this in mind I’ve been a lot more organised with my daughter’s timetables and how that impacts us as a family. I’ve also been simplifying my work life, I’ll be sharing more on that in a blog post next week. For now though it means that I have cut my separate mailing list The Start Up Life and I’m merging it with my monthly Coffee Work Sleep Repeat mailer. With this blog becoming more of a resource for creatives and small indie business owners it make sense to merge them and not create twice as much work for myself!

Green People Skincare
I’m determined to start looking after my skin more though I’m fully aware that I intend to start doing that each year and it often falls by the wayside. Now I’m hurtling towards my mid-thirties I really cannot take my skin for granted! I’ve invested in some new Green People products that I’ve used in the past –
Ritually applying them in a set routine is so key, no more going to bed with a face of make up!
I’m keen on making sure what I use is organic and ethical as much as possible. My cleanser is from Lush, and I’ve used it for years and year – Angels On Bare Skin.
Blogtacular Podcast – Episode 028 Lucy Nicholls ~ I mentioned Lucy and her blog earlier up in my Read section, and in this podcast she is being interviewed by Kat and they talk about the relationship between brands and bloggers.
We’re spending today and tomorrow celebrating our youngest girl. We’ve got plans to go bike shopping, swimming and have a games night with her favourite, ‘a picky tea’ (buffet style).
There’s also a HUGE sale over at my store, Little and Fierce and it’s a discount on everything, no code needed!
Have a fantastic weekend!
