GirlBoss, The Good Wife and Urban Heroes #littleloves

This has been the first week back to school, nursery and work for us. I must admit it’s been great to get back into the swing of things. I’ve been neglecting the blog and business and had so much to catch up on. Despite N’s tempter rearing it’s head again *groan* we have had a great week all in all. So here we go…

Welcome to this weeks Little Loves post!

I read #GirlBoss last summer on holiday while I was still working on my business plan for Little and Fierce and waiting for funding. It was such a fun and easy read that I decided to pick it up again and read it now that I’ve being running my business for a few months.

This particular paragraph really resonated with me and it’s something that’s at the core of Little and Fierce for me as a brand.

Honestly I could fit absolutely loads into this category this week, so bear with me I’ll try not to ramble!

After being recommended it by friends I’ve started watching The Good Wife, and I am absolutely hooked. It’s a programme I’ve been aware of for a while but missed out on it when it started on TV. Now we’ve got Netflix I’ve got the chance to start from the beginning, much better than jumping in half way through. The mister and I are still very much enjoying Sons of Anarchy too.

We had a crazy busy day on Saturday, first we headed up to the Lake District for our friends daughters’ baptism. It was a lovely afternoon – if a little cold!! It was lovely seeing the girls their make a commitment to God, especially when it was in such cold water, haha!

This photo got a lot of laughs when I shared it on Instagram – wine out of Disney Princess cups – so rock and roll 😉

After the bbq we jumped in the car and headed home ready to drop the girls at a sleepover, get changed in record time and head to Manchester for the Urban Hero Awards. This is an event that we’ve been going to for a few years now and I always head home feeling truly humbled and inspired. The awards are run by a charity called The Message and they recognise people that have turned their lives around.

If you head on over to The Message Trust’s youtube channel you can find out more.

The Urban Hero Awards is a black tie event so it’s always a bit of a worry when it comes to finding something to wear. I’d bought this dress a few months ago from ASOS and it was a perfect fit. I didn’t take any photos of myself wearing it so you’ll just have to make do with this one from ASOS – which incidentally looks just like me… *cough*

The girls have been enjoying the warm, light evenings playing in the garden, E even convinced me to get the paddling pool out! As a result they’ve worn their swimming costumes a lot this week!

(swimsuits by Sunuva)

The girls are STILL obsessed with Into the Woods, so that soundtrack has been on a lot.

As usual BANKS has been my music of choice while working this week, but I heard this song on the radio the other day and as a result I’ve been enjoyed their album on Spotify. I think we can expect big things from them.

Over the Christmas period I painted our pine topped dining table with chalkboard paint and we had great fun with it. Then I got my hands on the much loved Violet and Percy spotty table cloth and it’s been covered up ever since. Wanting some new backgrounds for Little and Fierce product shots I put away the tablecloth and invested in some bright chalk pens. The girls LOVE playing on it and have been doodling all week.

and lastly..

I’m off to London today with Jenny and will be heading out for dinner with Lucy and Katie. We haven’t met up since Center Parcs so it will be so lovely to catch up. We’re then going on to Blogtacular on the Saturday, are any of you going? It looks like it’s going to be a fantastic event.

I have a  giveaway running at the moment to win a £50 voucher for my store Little and Fierce, make sure you head on over to this post – Kitting the kids out for summer with Little & Fierce- to be in with a chance of winning (there’s also a 15% discount code for all my readers!)

 Have a lovely weekend!

I love your dress – its gorgeous. I listened to Nothing but Thieves cover a Mumford and Songs on the Live Lounge recently and I loved it – that guy has got the most amazing voice and I just listened to Itch and really loved this one too – actually gave me goosebumps! I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a chalkboard feature somewhere in our house – I’m thinking the fireplace as I do kinda hate the plasticky peachy coloured marble effect backing that’s been there ever since we moved in in 2008! (We never do anything in a hurry 🙂 ) Have a lovely time with your girls at Blogtacular – I’m coming to BML the weekend after and really nervous about it!! Xx

Do you know that painting our table top with chalk paint is on hubbies to-do list for the next few weeks. I hope it turns out as well as yours (if he ever gets round to it) x

  • Mel @mydaysni - June 12, 2015 reply

What a great charity night out that looks like – and you look fab! Also loving the chalk board pens, I may have to invest in some of those, as I just use chalk for my boards! The effect is nowhere near as good! Have a lovely time in London x

I watched the first series of The Good Wife but then lost track of it…must hunt it down, is it on Netflix?

Your chalkboard dining table is amazing, what a fantastic idea and I love the bright colours and how much fun it looks.

    Have a great week.

I have seen that book doing the rounds on blogs and YouTube this week, it sounds great – another to add the the list! I absolutely love the idea of a chalkboard table, what a brilliant idea.

    Have fun at Blogtacular!

I love the idea of painting the dining table with blackboard paint. Mine is on its last legs and looks awful in my kitchen. The top has gone sticky and horrible. Hopefully this year we will be getting a new one when we do up our kitchen but until then I might steal this! I am really rubbish with ‘arts and crafts’ with the boys as I am such a perfectionist their typical toddler ways get me worked up (bad mummy)so it may be a way of getting me to let them loose with some art! See you next week xx

  • Kerry - June 12, 2015 reply

Love the dress & your red lipstick too! I went to Boots and treated myself to two new reds Yesterday, so I will be sporting your look this weekend too. Only wish I had the dress to go with it. Very nice.

I have Itch playing through your link as I type.I kinda like it! I like it! I will be listening to this again. Have a great weekend xx

We’ve also really been enjoying the lighter and warm evenings, can be so relaxing at times. That chalkboard table is fab, we did this with some old wood boards, kids love it! Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow lovely! xx

I LOVE the Good Wife! No one else I know seems to watch it and it is so good, I’ve got my husband into it so I have someone to talk to about it. It is probably one of my favourite shows. Love what you have done to your table, it all looks very cute and pretty doodling, definitely not what it would look like in our house! xx

  • Not A Frumpy Mum - June 18, 2015 reply

You would have looked awesome in that dress, your makeup looked beaut so I can imagine the whole look.

The blackboard paint is an excellent idea, if our table was not new I would do this in a heartbeat – is it easy to clean food spills off of x
