The Maccabees, Mad Men and vegan food #LittleLoves

I’ve blinked and it’s Friday again. It’s been a funny old week, one that’s been full of ups and downs. My children are definitely ready for the end of term, there’s been tears and tantrums galore… and that’s just from me! Seriously though, I think we’re ready for a break from school, swim training and all everything else. As much as the idea of the looming summer holidays gives me a mini panic attack, if it means my children are less tired and grouchy then bring it on.

Here we go then, are you ready for some positivity, because I am? Grab a cuppa and enjoy my Little Loves, don’t forget you can read lots of other bloggers’ Little Loves by clicking on the linky at the end.

I’m still plodding along with The Handmaid’s Tale, it’s definitely a book to be savoured and pondered over. It’s a slow read and so full of detail, I’m enjoying it and in no rush to finish it.

I’ve also started The Girls* by Emma Cline, I’ve read rave reviews so I’m looking forward to reading more. Here’s hoping for a slow start to Saturday so I can have a coffee and a read in bed.

The mister and I finally had an evening in together last Friday night so we impulsively decided to watch Trainspotting 2. We missed it in the cinema so were pleased to get a chance to see it. It was as good as I hoped it would be, the acting was superb, just as you would expect.

On to something completely different..Pretty Little Liars. So I’ve watched the hugely anticipated finale, have you? Don’t worry I won’t give anything away, just in case you want to see it but haven’t yet. All I’ll say is there is a rather distracting terrible British accent going on in which rather ruined it for me.

Netflix wise, I completely binged my way through the new drama, Glow, last Friday while I was working *ahem*.

I actually really enjoyed it and really home it gets commissioned for a second season.

While we’re on the subject of Netflix I’ve decided to start Mad Men again from the beginning, and do you know what, after a couple of episodes I realised that I’ve never actually seen the first season! It really brought a whole lot of context to some of the later episodes I can tell you!  Honestly, what a fool!

Last Friday we had a big IKEA delivery so a lot of the weekend was spent putting it all together. I love our new chest of drawers, you can see a few more bits from our new home here.

On Instagram I spotted that Hayley had a new cookbook, Keep it Vegan*, and as we have dairy and egg intolerances I thought it was worth checking out.

I tried the Chana Masala earlier in the week and it went down so well! I had some initial protest from my youngest girl who decided she didn’t like chick peas but in the end she still ate the lot.

I’m sure I won’t be alone in saying raincoats and boots this week. Where oh where has the beautiful weather gone? I can cope with how we’ve gone from one extreme to another. I’d be happy with weather that fits in somewhere in between to be honest.

The coverage of Glastonbury over the weekend definitely got me in the mood for.. The Maccabees!!! They are currently on their last ever tour and I was lucky enough to get tickets for myself and fellow blogger Kerry I first saw them 10 years ago just before I got pregnant with N in February 2007. They hadn’t even released their first album at that point. I won’t say anything cliche like, ‘where has the time gone’, but you know full well that it’s implied. The atmosphere at this Manchester gig was incredible and rather emotional to be honest. I found the whole thing rather bittersweet, I love the songs and seeing them live but it was sad to think that this is one of their last ever gigs.

Have a listen for yourself here, I know I will be 😉

and lastly

I had hoped to have a June Little Loves vlog for you here but yesterday got high-jacked with boring life stuff so I didn’t get the chance to do it. Fingers crossed I can do it and add it in soon.

That British accent was just awful wasn’t it! I may have to buy that cookbook, what you’ve made looks very tasty! Thanks for hosting 🙂

We are so ready for the summer holidays! I’m on countdown!! I’ve only ever watched one episode of Mad Men and I didn’t carry on with it. I should try it again. Love the look of your curry! Oh I don’t miss putting flat pack together!! So tideous but worth it in the end! Have a wonderful weekend xx

The summer holidays are slowing creeping up – not long now; it’ll be here before you know it! I’ve never watched Mad Men, although I do really want to. The meal you made looks delicious!

Oh gosh my girls and I are sooooo ready for the summer holidays as well. Slow mornings and fun-filled afternoons are very much needed. That chest of drawers is gorgeous! And I’ve never listened to The Maccabees – I’ll have to give them a try.

I know what you mean about being ready for the Summer holidays, my two have been a nightmare this week too. I loved Mad Men when we watched it, I don’t know what it is about that show but it just has that ‘something’ that makes you want to keep watching. Those drawers from Ikea are lovely, they have it spot on when it comes to furniture don’t they. Have a lovely weekend.

I went to Ikea yesterday and bought 2 x Malm dressing tables for my girls’ bedrooms but now I’ve seen that chest of drawers, I want it! We need something big for my daughter’s bedroom as she has very little hanging space and her clothes are literally exploding out of her drawers. Your house looks lovely already, I don’t know how you’ve managed it! I’ve never watched Pretty Little Liars but my girls have, I’m sure they will be onto this new season. Also not seen Trainspotting 2 but I found the first one such a difficult watch that it’s put me off the second one. Glad you had an evening together with your husband though. Sounds perfect. xx

I’m desperate for the summer holidays, the children are definitely reaching the point of exhaustion and need the rest. The hope of some summer-associated weather would definitely be appreciated. I really thought it would be warm rain this week, but I might have to follow suite and find my raincoat! I am loving the snapshots of your new home- it must be so good to have it taking shape. x

I haven’t heard anything good about the PLL finale so I’m thinking I might give it a miss as I’m a couple of seasons behind anyway! I am so with you on being ready for the summer break too…bring it on.

  • Sarah | Boo Roo and Tigger Too - June 30, 2017 reply

I managed to catch Trainspotting 2 when it was in the cinema. I felt as though I’d been transported back in time and loved how they managed to link in all the characters.

  • claire - June 30, 2017 reply

Yes we’ve been wearing raincoats too. Love those drawers. I’d like to watch trainspotting 2 one day.

  • RachelSwirl - June 30, 2017 reply

Glasto was so awesome wasn’t it. I so hope to go there one day!

  • gemma @ Gemslittletreasures - June 30, 2017 reply

Mad Men-god another series we’ve never watched. Me and the hubby have a huge list that we just never seem to start! I Love the chest of drawers-would love one like that in our bedroom but there isn’t a huge amount of space and the storage we have got is more yet not enough-lol! Know what you mean about emotional kids and having mixed feelings about the summer hols. 3 more weeks to go! Have a lovely weekend x

  • Catherine Lewis - July 2, 2017 reply

I love Mad Men. I keep seeing it pop up as a suggested option on Netflix and have to stop myself from watching an episode as I know I will end going on a Don Draper shaped binge watching session.

  • Sarah Christie - July 2, 2017 reply

I loved following Glastonbury it was so great, and yes this weather has been blooming awful its been amazing to welcome the sun back for the weekend x

  • Chantal - Capturing These Days - July 3, 2017 reply

Oh I love the Maccabees! I saw them live years ago (probably 2007!) and they were fab – glad you had a great time. I’ve never seen Mad Men but it is on my list – I might even start it this afternoon! xx

  • Ali - We Made This Life - July 5, 2017 reply

I’ve been seriously thinking about going Vegan so I’m going to check out this cookbook! And you’ve reminded me that I haven’t finished watching Mad Men – I still have the last series to watch!
