Hello you, hope you’ve had a good week? As usual it’s been a busy one for me, but I really wouldn’t have it any other way. I did carve out time to tackle my children’s bedrooms this week so we can actually see carpet again in both their rooms. So there’s a win right there! It’s times like this I’m thankful I’m not a parent blogger that has to share their kid’s bedrooms with the world! Apart from my domesticity, I’ve had such a fun week from planning my podcast, to attending an Instagram workshop and even just sitting out in the sunshine and watching the girls play in the evening.
I do have a bit of important news, I’ve made the very difficult decision to no longer post a weekly Little Loves like this one but instead it will be monthly. With all the changes going on for me work wise I just don’t have the time for this to be a weekly post as well as hosting it and commenting on all the lovely posts. I want to go back to enjoying sharing my Little Loves and not worrying when and how I’ll find the time to do it. Thankfully the majority of the bloggers I’ve messaged about this change are on board with it, and some are relieved about the change too as it releases them from the weekly pressure too.
Right, lets get onto the wonderful little things from this week, grab a cuppa (or a glass, depending on the time of day..!) and have a read.
Sadly another week has gone by and I’m no further on with any of my fiction books. I’m doing lots of reading for work but none just for fun. It doesn’t help that I forgot to bring a book for any of my train journeys!
This Monday saw the return of the epic series that is Westworld. We were rather obsessed with the first season and all its twists and turns and were ridiculously excited for the second season. I even did the geeky thing of watching vlogs that unpacked aspects of the complex storyline to refresh my memory. Thankfully it did not disappoint and had us on the edge of our seats.
I watched an Instagram marketing pro at work on Saturday. The ever so lovely and crazy knowledgeable Sam Burgess aka Social Mouth Sam held a workshop in Manchester for small creative businesses on how to build your brand on Instagram. It was held in the most beautiful little shop in the Northern Quarter, 49 Hilton Street. Honestly I wish I could move in there, the owner’s taste is to die for.
I found the content of the afternoon incredibly insightful, it confirmed a lot of what I already knew but taught me a few hints and tips as well as giving me food for thought as I transition my business. The biggest thing I took away was to remember that Instagram is a marketing tool for your business (whether you are a blogger or shop owner) and not to get caught up in the numbers game but to look at conversions and click throughs as you build your community. 2k of engaged followers is better than 20k of passive likers that aren’t your tribe and don’t engage beyond Instagram. Obviously this is advice for those that use Insta for their business and not for personal reasons.
I’m in the midst of starting quite a few projects and I’ve been getting frustrated with my terrible task management. Time is disappearing and I’m left with little to show for it! In attempt to get organised I’m trying out Trello. It’s an online task management, um, thing – technical term right there – and it was recommended by lots of creative business owners in a Facebook group I’m part of. I’ve tried so many different systems, from bullet journalling to GTD to random bits of paper so I really want to stick with this one and get it to work for me.
I also, rather excitedly had another trip in Manchester this time for a podcast planning meeting. We’ve finally allocated tasks out ready to start recording in June. I cannot wait to start sharing more about this, but for now we are keeping as much under wraps as we can (it’s killing me!). Having a mammouth planning session requires coffee and food so it was the perfect opportunity to visit Mackie Mayor, the sister location of Alty Market.
I donned a pretty dress on Sunday for the gorgeous Jenny‘s baby shower! You can read all about it and see the cutest baby cupcakes over on her blog post -Baby Cupcakes Steal The Spotlight At My Baby Shower
Like at lot people I’ve been digging out my summer clothes for those hot sunny days we’ve had. I had a lot less than I thought, which I think is always the case, so I’ve been busy scoping out some new summer style picks. Sadly everything on my ASOS wishlist has sold out in my size! That’s the problem with being Petite, they don’t stock as many pieces and they fly out crazy fast. I’ve been hitting the refresh button daily to see if anymore have come in. Here are some of my wishlist favourites, and yes, I know, they’re pretty much all black.
I’ve been loving listening to Lucy chat with Sas Petherick on a What She Said episode this week. Sas is just so full of wisdom when it comes to working on confidence and tacking self doubt.
Music wise I’ve been keeping it chilled and sticking with Ry X. His stuff never fails to relax me
We’ve got a fantastic weekend of family ahead of us with my sister and brother in law coming up to stay with their kids. I hope we get some sunshine, I’ve been refreshing my weather app like a crazy person so I can properly plan what we’re doing!
Remember this is the last weekly Little Loves post so the next one will be at the end of May, the 25th to be exact. I look forward to sharing all my May Little Loves with you then.
Have a fantastic weekend!
